In this Photoshop tutorial you will learn how to create a Sketch from Your Photos .
Whenever you want to look like an artist who can draw, but you can’t draw, you have Photoshop to help you out. Sketched photos look as though they were hand drawn without the pain of actually trying to draw the photo and replicate it with a pencil and paper. This is easy to do and can really add a dramatic effect to your photos.
The first step is to open up the photo you are going to sketch. The second step is to create a duplicate layer of the Background layer. You can do this by simply clicking Ctrl+J. The new layer will show up in the Layers palette as Layer 1.
Next, you will desaturate the new layer. The easiest way to do this is to use Shift+Ctrl+U. This will remove all of the color from the photo. You will then want to create a duplicate layer of this as well. Using Ctrl+J, you can create one easily and it will be automatically named Layer 1 copy.
Now we will invert the layer. This means that the light and dark areas will switch and your image will look like a film negative and your people in the photo will look like aliens.
With the inverted layer selected, you will change the blend mode to Color Dodge. Click on the down arrow next to Normal on the Layers palette Option bar. This temporarily makes the image white.
Finally, you will give the image the sketch effect. All you need to do this is use the Gaussian Blur. To do this, select the Color Dodged layer (top layer) in the Layers palette. Go up to the Filter menu and select Blur. Then select Gaussian Blur. This will bring up the blur dialog box. Adjust the Radius down to 1 pixel. If your photo is a high resolution photo, 4 or 5 may be okay as well.
For some photos you may not need to do any more. If your image is too light and needs darkening then you can make some adjustments. With the top layer selected use Shift+Ctrl+Alt+E to merge all of your layers into one. Now, change the blend mode to Multiply and this will make everything look darker. This will give the image better contrast and it won’t appear so light. You can also lower the Opacity value more to fine-tune your darkening. This effect is very cool and sure to impress a lot of people.
