The list of Google AdSense Tips and Tricks shows how you can optimize your website and boost your AdSense income.

1. New Websites – Do not to insert ads on empty pages – Choose the right topic

  • When you are building a new website do not insert Google AdSense on it until it’s finished. If the content of the website is “lorem ipsum” or a placeholder text, your Google AdSense ads will certainly be off topic. Google will have to guess as what your page is about.
  • The first Google AdSense secret to a successful AdSense business is finding the right topic for your site.
  • Don’t put Google AdSense on it until you have built back links - links from other websites to your site - and started getting traffic (but you can use Google Analytics)

2. Target keywords

  • Keywords research is the most important Google AdSense secret. Check the web page keyword density before putting ads on it. You should use targeted keywords frequently but naturally.
  • The keywords you are targeting for your Google ads should have a density around two to five percents. To achieve these percents try to repeat the keyword at least twice for every 100 words on your page.

3. Choose the right Google AdSense format

  • Wider formats are profitable because the ads are compact and convenient to read.
  • The top three Google AdSense formats are: 336×280 large rectangle; 300×250 medium rectangle; 160×600 wide skyscraper. Another profitable format and placement of the Google ads is the 468×15 horizontal ad links, placed under navigation bar.
  • If you have a forum, the best position of the Google AdSense is directly above or below the first forum thread.

4. Color tips

  • When you create your Google AdSense ads it is recommended to use the color scheme and style of your site so that the ads blend in well. It is said that Google Ads without borders and background color will give better performance.
  • Create some custom AdSense palettes and rotate your color palettes. You can try to change the hyperlinks to a high contrast color, like dark blue violet or dark orange, and then change the Google AdSense title to the same color.

5. Position tips –Google Advertising Map

Users tend to read the big headlines to see if your page is worth reading. If you get them interested, they will read the text and look for your navigation links.

Make Google AdSense ads prominent! Place them where the users will have a high chance of looking at them. Google heat map for AdSense is useful as a positioning guideline. It provides optimization tips on ad placement.

Your browser may not support display of this image.
The colors fade from dark orange (strongest performance) to light yellow (weakest performance). Of course, every website is different. That is why I recommend you to use Google channel or AdSense tracking tools to see the behavior of your visitors.

6. Increase the number of ads, but not too much

Another way to increase ad revenue is to use multiple ad units. According to Google AdSense you are allowed to post up to three ad units per page. Use multiple AdSense units if you have a long content. AdSense for Search allows visitors to search Google.com or your sites (up to 3 domains). One can earn money whenever the users click on the ads that come up on the search results. If you don’t want to loose your customers than choose the Open search results in a new browser window checkbox in the AdSense for Search settings.

7. Preview Google ads

  • You can see for yourself how ads are looking on your webpage if you install Google AdSense Preview Tool. You can click on the ads without generating invalid clicks, and, even, add their URLs to your URL filter list.
  • If there aren’t Google AdSense ads available for your site, use alternate colors or images to hide Public Service Ads.

8. ATTENTION NOT TO DO:

  • Do NOT click on your own ads
  • Do NOT ask others to click on your Google ads
  • Do NOT manually change AdSense code (probabily just the color palette)
  • Do NOT place Google ads on sites that include prohibited content
  • Do NOT employ hidden text, farm links or cloacking
  • Do NOT use AdSense ads on the same page with similar ads

9. Show images above or next to your ads

Placing images above AdSense ads is not prohibited by Google AdSense program policies. But you should include a border line between the ads and the images. Don’t mislead the visitor. Google do not like that! Use generic images that might increase the visibility of your ads.

10. Use section targeting

Use section targeting to emphasize some content in your page. On your site, place this code where you want to emphasize.

<!– google_ad_section_start –>

Content you want to emphasize.

<!– google_ad_section_end –>

If you want some content to be ignored, use

<!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –>

11. Alternate the colors of your ads

AdSense allows you to have up to 4 color variations for each variable for which you can specify color. You should do that if you put AdSense ads on web page that receives many impressions from the same users to reduce ad blindness.

12. Your Google ads should be visible

Try to make sure your Google text ads are visible on the web page in all screen formats.

13. Use AdSense channels

Try to use channels to be able to track your performance, experiment different types of ads, test and know who clicks where and why. Create up to 200 channels for AdSense. Create distinct URL channels to find out which URL is generating the income.
